LUIGI BORRELLI: FROM MASTER SHIRTMAKER TO LUXURY OUTFITTERS

Luigi Borrelli is a highly reputable menswear store, founded in Naples in 1957. The store was established by renowned Neapolitan shirtmaker, Luigi Borrelli, who sought to continue his family’s trade, having been taught his craft by his mother. His eponymous sartorial outpost became known as a haven for luxurious, handmade and beautifully tailored pieces. Borrelli today has stores across Italy and has recently expanded overseas with its first international branch in Tokyo.

Born of the shirtmaking tradition that has come to define the fashion landscape of Naples, Borrelli was initially established as a bespoke, handmade camiceria, seving clients from across the region. His fledgling firm flourished and continued to attract a discerning customer base from across Italy.

In 2020, Luigi’s grandchildren – Luigi and Carola Maria Borrelli – established Boreal 1957. This new venture would take the classic shirtmaker in a new direction and to new markets. The firm’s traditional shirtmaking service ceased in favour of a full menswear range, produced in accordance with the exacting standards that had become synonymous with the Borrelli house.

Showing at the Pitti Imagine Uomo fairs and at various international trunk shows, the new look Luigi Borrelli demonstrated luxurious knitwear, tailored pieces, casual pieces, shoes and accessories alongside a range of high-quality shirts in keeping with the brand’s tradition.

A new flagship store was opened in Italy’s fashion capital, Milan, followed by branches in Rome, Forte dei Marmi and Bari. The brand has also opened their first international branch in Tokyo and secured distribution with various high-end department stores in Japan and other Asian markets.

The firm plans further expansion with new stores and locations in the pipeline as well as a project to refurbish their historic base in Naples.
